User Permissions let you control which sections of Blackpurl each group of staff can access or are restricted from. For example, your Unit Sales staff may need access to Customer Order Units but should not be able to view Account Settings or costings. This article walks you through creating a User Permission Group, configuring its permissions, and assigning users to it.
For a full list of available permissions and what each one does, see User Permissions in Blackpurl Reference.
What Are User Permissions
User Permissions allow your dealership to grant or restrict access to specific sections of Blackpurl for particular groups of users. Instead of configuring access individually for each person, you create a User Permission Group, define what that group can access, and then assign the relevant users to it.
How to Set Up User Permissions
The steps below use this scenario: your Unit Sales staff do not need access to Account Settings, but they do need access to Customer Order Units. You will create a new User Permission Group called Unit Sales, configure its permissions, and assign users to it.
Part 1: Navigate to User Permissions
1. In the Blackpurl header, click your initials, then select Settings.
2. From the System Settings Dashboard, click User Permissions.
Part 2: Understand the User Permissions Screen
The User Permissions screen loads with the following elements:
Search field — If you have many User Permission Groups, type a group name here to filter the list and select the one you need.
Group list — Displays all User Permission Groups currently set up in Blackpurl.
Create new group button — Opens the dialog to create a new User Permission Group.
Tip: To edit the permissions for an existing User Permission Group, click on that group's icon in the list and you will be taken directly to its permission settings.
Part 3: Create the New Group
1. Click Create new group to open the Create New Group dialog.
2. Enter a name for the group — for this example, type Unit Sales.
3. Assign a colour to the group.
4. Click CREATE.
Part 4: Configure Permissions
1. Work through the full list of permissions and decide which areas this User Permission Group should be able to access. Refer to User Permissions in Blackpurl Reference for details on what each permission controls.
2. For each permission you want to enable, switch its toggle from off (grey) to on (green).
3. Where a permission has sub-options — such as allowing the group to Create / Modify as well as view — additional toggles will appear once the parent permission is enabled. Make your selections for each.
4. When all permissions are configured, click SAVE CHANGES.
Part 5: Assign Members to the Group
1. Click the Members tab on the group screen.
2. Click ASSIGN MEMBERS. The Assign Users to Unit Sales dialog will appear.
3. Click into the Search Users field. A list of current users will load.
4. Search for and click to select each user who should belong to this group.
5. Click ASSIGN TO THIS GROUP.
Blackpurl will update the Members tab to show the users just assigned to the group.
To add more users to this group at any time, click the ASSIGN USERS TO THIS GROUP button on the Members tab.
Please note: Each user can only be assigned to one User Permission Group at a time.
