Unit Deal Tax Options on a Customer Order

Learn how to set unit-specific tax rates, control tax on deal unit options, and apply customer address-based taxation on unit deals.

This article covers the tax options available on a unit deal within a customer order in Blackpurl. You can set a specific tax rate for each unit or trade-in, control whether deal unit option fees inherit the unit's tax rate, and — for USA dealerships — calculate tax based on the customer's address instead of the dealership's location.

Deal Unit Specific Tax Rates

From time to time a customer may purchase a unit that requires a tax rate different from your default. In the Unit Deal section of a customer order, you can indicate whether each unit is taxable and select the applicable tax rate. If you make no changes, the unit defaults to Taxable with the standard applicable tax already set.

Every new unit deal added to the customer order has this same option, so each unit can carry its own tax rate independently.

Trade-ins have the same capability. For each trade-in on the customer order, you can set whether the trade-in is taxable and select the applicable tax rate.

Deal Unit Tax Control Option

The Deal Unit Tax Control option lets you decide whether the applicable tax set on the unit deal also applies to all deal unit option fees on that unit. By default, deal unit option fees control their own tax rates individually. If you enable this toggle, all those fees will instead use the tax rate indicated on the unit deal rather than their own separate rates.

Tax Based on Customer's Address (USA Only)

For USA dealerships where tax is based on the customer's address rather than the dealership's location, Blackpurl provides a toggle to switch how tax is calculated on a unit deal. By default, taxes are calculated based on the dealership's address. When tax is determined by where the customer lives, you can override this at the unit deal level.

To apply customer address-based taxation on a unit deal:

  1. Open the unit deal on the customer order.

  2. Locate the Tax Based on the Customer Address toggle and enable it.

  3. Confirm the customer record has a complete address — Blackpurl uses that address to calculate the applicable taxes.

Once the toggle is enabled, taxes on that unit deal are calculated using the customer's address on file.
