Default Accounts are the fallback General Ledger (GL) accounts that Blackpurl uses when you create new categories. Setting these up ensures that new categories are never created with blank GL fields — you can always override a default account on any individual category if needed.
This article is Step 6 of the accounting integration series. For the full series, see Accounting Integration Setup: All Steps. Categories are covered in the next step — see Step 7 Overview: Understanding Accounting Integration — Categories.
Default Accounts Fields
The Default Accounts section contains five fields. Each field sets the GL account that will be pre-populated when you create a new category of that type.
Sales Income | The default GL account for any sales income. Recommended: your Parts Revenue or Sales GL account. |
Cost of Goods Sold | The default GL account for cost of goods sold (COGS). Recommended: your Parts COGS GL account. |
Inventory | The default GL account for inventory. Recommended: your Parts Inventory GL account. |
Miscellaneous Income | The default GL account for miscellaneous income. Recommended: your Miscellaneous Income GL account. |
Sales Tax | The default GL account for sales tax. Recommended: the BP Tax account created with your Chart of Accounts. |
What Happens Next
These defaults exist so that categories always have a GL account assigned when first created. If a default account does not suit a specific category, you can override it at the category level. Continue to Step 7 Overview: Understanding Accounting Integration — Categories to set up your categories using these defaults.
