Overview
This article explains how to view and change tax options on Customer Orders for US-based dealerships in Blackpurl. Tax options are available across three sections of a Customer Order: Unit Deals, Parts & Accessories, and Service Jobs.
For full taxation setup, reporting, and configuration details, see USA - Taxation including Reporting / Setup / Changing Tax on Customer Orders (no longer available).
Unit Deal Section
The Unit Deal section loads with the default tax setting each time you add a new unit. The default tax is based on your dealership's address as configured in Tax Activity and Settings. You can leave this as-is or override it to calculate taxes based on the customer's billing or shipping address.
Summary-Level Tax Options
Tax options set in the Unit Deal Summary section apply as the default for all units sold on that Unit Deal. The following options are available in the Summary section.
1. Sales Taxes | Lists any sales tax attached to the whole Unit Deal. A single Unit Deal may include multiple units. To see a breakdown of the taxes, click the Sales Tax Details icon. |
2. Calculate taxes based on | Billing Address — Enable this toggle to calculate tax based on the billing address on the Customer Record. The full billing address must be recorded on the Customer Record for the correct tax to apply. You can set billing address tax as the default — see item 37 under B. If you enable this toggle for a customer in a state where the dealership does not collect and remit sales tax, you will receive the error: You don't collect/remit sales taxes for the state indicated on the customer address. The Unit Deal will then default to the dealership's standard tax. Shipping Address — This option is only available when a shipping address has been added to the Customer Order or Customer Record.
