Global Search in Blackpurl lets you find customers, orders, parts, and other records from anywhere in the application — without navigating away from your current screen. This article explains the benefits of Global Search and how to use its key features, including hotkey access, filters, slash commands, and grouped results.
Benefits of Global Search
Global Search includes several improvements that make finding records faster and easier.
Hotkey access — Open Global Search from anywhere in Blackpurl without using your mouse. Press Ctrl+G on Windows or Cmd+G on Mac to open it instantly. This is Blackpurl's first implementation of hotkeys, with more planned for the future.
Faster results — Significant performance improvements mean search results appear much more quickly than before.
New look and feel — The updated interface lets you filter results by record type, view recent searches, and browse results organized into grouped sections.
How to Use Global Search
Opening Global Search
There are two ways to open Global Search:
Click the Search button in the Blackpurl header.
Use the hotkey from anywhere in Blackpurl — Ctrl+G on Windows or Cmd+G on Mac.
Recent Searches
When you open Global Search, the interface displays a Recent Searches section before you begin typing. Recent Searches shows the 8 most recent records you have searched for and navigated to using Global Search. Click any entry in the Recent Searches list to navigate directly to that record.
Running a New Search
To search for something new, start typing in the search box. You need to enter at least two characters before results begin to appear. As you type more characters, the results update to show closer matches.
Filtering Results
If you already know what type of record you are looking for, you can narrow results using one of two methods.
Filters Icon
Click the Filters icon to select which record types you want to include in your results. Only records matching the selected types will appear.
Slash Commands
Type a forward slash (/) at the start of your search to see a list of available slash commands, each corresponding to a specific record type. You can select a command using the up and down arrow keys and pressing Enter — no mouse required.
You can also type the full slash command followed by a space and then your search term to go straight to searching within that record type. For example, the old co: syntax is now /co followed by a space.
Grouped Results
Search results are always grouped by record type. The number of results shown per group depends on how many filters are active:
When a single filter is selected, up to 20 results are shown for that group.
When multiple filters are selected or no filter is selected, up to 4 results are shown per group.
If more results are available within a group, a SEE MORE link appears at the bottom of that group. Clicking SEE MORE expands the group to show every available result, all without leaving Global Search.
Once you find the record you want, click it to navigate directly to that record.
