This article explains how to create and manage Makes, Models, and Sub Models in Blackpurl. You can set these up in advance through Settings, or add them on the fly when creating a unit record.
Navigate to Make / Model / Sub Model Settings
The Make / Model / Sub Model settings are found in your system settings. Follow these steps to get there and understand how the hierarchy is structured.
1. Click your initials in the Blackpurl header, then select Settings.
2. On the Settings page, locate and open the Make and Model section. Any Makes already created will be listed here.
3. To view the Models under a Make, click the expand arrow next to the relevant Make. For example, clicking the Make Ford will reveal its Models — such as Ranger.
4. To view the Sub Models under a Model, click the expand arrow next to the relevant Model using the same approach.
Add a New Make, Model, or Sub Model
Use the add buttons within the Make and Model settings page to create new entries at each level of the hierarchy.
To add a new Make — click Add new make and complete the Add a new make screen.
To add a new Model — click Add new model under the relevant Make and complete the Add a new model screen.
To add a new Sub Model — click Add new sub-model under the relevant Model and complete the Add a new sub-model screen.
Description Field
Both the Model and Sub Model screens include an optional Description field where you can enter details about the unit.
If you enter text in the Description (optional) field on either the Model or Sub Model, that text will automatically populate the Notes field on the Unit Record when a unit (including a Temp Unit) is created.
If you have text in both the Model and Sub Model Description (optional) fields, the Sub Model text takes priority and will be used.
Edit or Delete a Make, Model, or Sub Model
You can edit or delete existing Makes, Models, and Sub Models using the icons next to each entry in the list.
Click the edit (pencil) icon to modify an entry, or the delete (trash) icon to remove it.
Blackpurl will not allow you to delete a Make, Model, or Sub Model that is currently in use in the system.
Add Makes and Models When Creating a Unit
Blackpurl also lets you add new Makes and Models on the fly when adding Customer Owned Units or Stock Units — without going through Settings first.
If the Make or Model you need does not appear in the search results, type the new name directly into the search field and tab to the next field. Blackpurl will add it to the listing automatically.
For example, if you want to add a Mazda 3 as a Stocked Unit and Mazda does not appear in the Make list, type Mazda in the Make field and tab to the Model field, type 3, then click Save. The system will save the new Make and Model. The next time you search, Mazda and 3 will appear in the list.
If you do not have the ability to add Makes and Models this way, speak to your Manager about the Create Make & Model Adhoc user permission. See User Permissions in Blackpurl Reference for details.
