This article explains what Dealer Installed Options are, how they appear on a Customer Order Unit Deal when you sell a stocked unit, and how to control which options are visible to the customer.
What Are Dealer Installed Options
Dealer Installed Options are parts, services, or labour items that have been added to a stocked unit through a finalized Internal Service Job. Examples include a replacement muffler, new brake pads, or the labour to install them.
Because these items increase the cost of the unit, they need to be taken into account when pricing it for sale. If the selling price is not adjusted to recover the cost of Dealer Installed Options, the profitability on that unit will be reduced.
For example, a unit record may show that an Oil Pump and Brake Pads were installed through a finalized Internal Service Job. As a result, both the cost price and the selling price on the unit record have increased to reflect those additions.
How Dealer Installed Options Appear on a Customer Order Unit Deal
When you add a stocked unit to a Customer Order Unit Deal, any Dealer Installed Options associated with that unit automatically appear as part of the pricing breakdown on the Customer Order. They also print on the Bill of Sale and the Offer to Purchase.
For example, when Stock# SKU-00053 is added to a Customer Order Unit Deal, the pricing section shows how much of the total is made up of Dealer Installed Options. This information is pulled directly from the Unit Record Pricing section. Clicking Edit Pricing on the Customer Order will list each Dealer Installed Option individually.
How to Control Which Dealer Installed Options Show on a Customer Order Unit Deal
If you do not want certain Dealer Installed Options to appear as charges on the Customer Order Unit Deal, you can zero them out through the Edit Pricing Details window. To do this:
1. Open the Customer Order and navigate to the Unit Deal.
2. Click Edit Pricing.
3. In the Edit Pricing Details window, set the price to zero for any Dealer Installed Options you do not want to show as charged to the customer.
4. Click Done.
Zeroing out a Dealer Installed Option reduces the price shown in the Dealer Installed Options field on the Customer Order Unit Deal. Be aware that this will also reduce the profitability calculated on that unit.
When you print the Bill of Sale or Offer to Purchase, Dealer Installed Options will still be listed. Whether or not a price appears next to each item depends on whether it was zeroed out in the Edit Pricing Details window — zeroed-out items will show without a charge.
Keep in mind that in Customer Order Profitability, the full cost of all Dealer Installed Options is always shown, regardless of what was zeroed out on the Unit Deal.
