Whitelist Email Addresses in Blackpurl

Learn what email whitelisting is and how to set up an SPF record so Blackpurl emails reach your customers instead of their spam folders.

If your dealership sends emails through Blackpurl, those emails may end up in your customers' junk or spam folders unless your domain is properly configured. This article explains what email whitelisting means and how to set up a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record to authorize Blackpurl to send mail on your behalf.

What Is Email Whitelisting?

Email whitelisting means adding a sender to your approved senders list. This tells your email client that you trust the sender, which keeps their messages in your inbox and out of your junk or spam folder.

If your dealership uses a custom email domain (for example, @yourbusinessname.com), you need to create or update a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record in your domain's DNS settings. This authorizes Salesforce — Blackpurl's platform provider — to send emails on behalf of your domain, which helps prevent Blackpurl emails from being flagged as spam by your customers' email clients.

Setting Up an SPF Record

Because Blackpurl runs on the Salesforce platform, you need to include Salesforce in your domain's SPF record so that emails sent from Blackpurl pass spam checks.

  1. If you don't already have an SPF record for your domain, create one. There are many online resources available to help, or consult your IT team for assistance.

  2. Add _spf.salesforce.com to your SPF record. This is required for emails sent from the Blackpurl application to pass SPF checks.

Only use _spf.salesforce.com. Other SPF records for the salesforce.com domain are not relevant to Blackpurl and should not be used.

Example SPF Records

The following are examples of valid SPF records that include the required Salesforce entry. Use these as a reference when creating or updating your own record.

  • v=spf1 mx include:_spf.salesforce.com ~all

  • v=spf1 mx ip4:204.14.234.64/28 ip4:204.14.232.64/28 ip4:182.50.78.64/28 ip4:96.43.144.64/31 ip4:96.43.148.64/31 include:_spf.salesforce.com ~all
