Blackpurl Reporting Overview

Learn how Blackpurl's reporting works, including built-in reports, custom reports, shared reports, and favorites.

Blackpurl approaches reporting differently from traditional dealership systems — instead of providing an overwhelming list of reports you may never use, it gives you a focused set of built-in reports that you can customize with your own columns and filters. You can also save, share, and schedule reports to suit your dealership's needs.

Where Are the Reports?

To navigate to Blackpurl reports, go to the Blackpurl header and select Reporting > Reports.

Once you are in the Reports section, there are two tabs:

  • Blackpurl reports — the built-in set of standard reports organized by area

  • My custom and shared reports — your saved custom reports, reports shared with you, and your favorites

Section 1: Blackpurl Reports

The Blackpurl reports section contains built-in reports organized into sections based on dealership area: Parts, Service, Units, Admin & Other, Reconciliations, and Ordering. All reports related to Parts appear under the Parts section, all Service reports under Service, and so on.

Running a Built-In Report

To run a built-in report, click the report name to generate it using its default parameters and columns. From there, you can adjust the columns and filters to match what you need.

For example, if you want a report listing all active customers for an email campaign — showing Customer Name, Email Address, and Customer Number — start by navigating to Admin & Other > Customers and clicking the report name to run it with default settings.

Adjusting Columns

Use the column selection icon to add or remove columns from the report results. Select the columns you need and deselect those you don't. For the email campaign example, you would keep Customer Name, Email Address, and Customer Number and remove the rest. Click Done when you have made your selections — the report will reconfigure to show only the columns you chose.

Adjusting Parameters and Filters

If you only want results matching specific criteria — for example, customers created in the last 30 days — you can change the report's parameters using the filter menu. Open the filter panel, update the parameters such as Created: Last 30 days, then click Apply to regenerate the report with your new criteria.

Creating a New Report

Rather than starting from a built-in report, you can build a report from scratch. Click New report at the top of the Reports page to open a blank report creation screen.

Start by selecting a Type — the type you choose determines which other filters and parameters become available. Work down through the available filters to define your criteria, then click Apply to generate the report.

Section 2: My Custom and Shared Reports

The My custom and shared reports tab lists reports you have saved, reports that other users have shared with you, and reports you have marked as favorites.

Saving Custom Reports

If you have configured a report with specific columns and parameters that you want to reuse, save it as a custom report by clicking Save As while the report results are displayed. You will be prompted to either update an existing saved filter or save it as a new filter, and to give the report a unique name. Click Save to confirm.

Your saved report will appear in the My custom and shared reports tab under Custom with the name you gave it. The next time you need that report, go to the My custom and shared reports tab and select it from the Custom section — all your columns and parameters will be pre-applied.

Shared Reporting

Blackpurl lets you share reports with other users and receive reports that others share with you. When another user shares a report with you, it appears in the My custom and shared reports tab under Shared with me, along with the name of the user who shared it.

For instructions on sharing reports, see Share a Custom Report in Blackpurl.

Favorite Reports

You can mark any report as a favorite by clicking the star icon while viewing the report results. The star icon changes from gray to yellow to confirm the report is now a favorite. Favorited reports appear in the My custom and shared reports tab under Favorites for quick access.

Other Information

Scheduled Reporting

Some reports support scheduling. When you set up a schedule on a report, Blackpurl automatically runs the report and emails it to you at the frequency you specify. For setup instructions, see Scheduled Reporting.

Reporting Access and Permissions

If the Reporting menu is missing or greyed out, you do not have the required user permission. Review User Permission — Reports and speak with your manager to obtain access.
