Add and Edit Labor Codes

Add new labor codes and edit existing ones to control how labor is priced and categorized on customer order service jobs.

Labor codes define how labor charges are applied to customer orders in Blackpurl. This article explains how to create a new labor code and how to edit an existing one.

Add a New Labor Code

Follow these steps to create a new labor code in Blackpurl.

1. From the Blackpurl header, navigate to Admin > Labor Codes, then click Add Code.

2. The Add Labor window opens. Fill in the relevant fields using the reference below, then click Save.

Labor Code Field Reference

The Add Labor window includes the following fields.

Code

A short code used to search for and identify this labor code when adding it to a customer order service job.

Description

The name of the labor code. This description appears on the customer order when the labor code is added.

Hours

The default number of hours to apply when this labor code is used.

Fixed Rate

Check this box to fix the price to the rate specified on this labor code. If left unchecked, the price is determined by the price level attached to the customer when the labor code is added to a customer order.

Rate

The hourly rate for this labor code.

Calculate Supplies

Check this box to calculate shop supplies on this labor code. For setup details, see Set Up Shop Supplies on Customer Orders.

Category

The category this labor code belongs to.

Forms Tag

A tag required for forms, if applicable.

Taxable

Whether this labor code is taxable. If yes, you will be prompted to specify which tax applies.

Edit an Existing Labor Code

To edit a labor code, first navigate to the labor code record you want to update. You can find it using Global Search or through Reporting. These articles can help:

Once you have located the labor code record, follow these steps.

1. Open the labor code record and click Edit.

2. On the Edit Labor screen, update the required fields.

3. Click Save to apply your changes.

Any changes you save will apply from that point forward and will not affect previously completed customer orders.
