This article covers basic troubleshooting for the Dymo LabelWriter barcode printer used with Blackpurl. Work through the checks below before contacting support — Blackpurl Support will ask whether you have completed these steps.
Basic Troubleshooting
Start by checking each of the following before moving on to specific error sections.
Printer Connection
Confirm the Dymo LabelWriter is connected to your computer. A quick check is to print a Windows Test Page to the Dymo LabelWriter printer. If the test page fails to print, reinstall the printer and its driver.
Power
Make sure the Dymo LabelWriter is plugged in and switched on. The indicator lights should be on and the printer should be in a ready state.
Dymo Software Installed and Running
Confirm you have installed the correct Dymo software — see Set Up Dymo Label Printer Software for Barcode Printing for details. A quick way to check whether the software is installed and running is to look for the Dymo icon in your Windows taskbar system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen).
Label Feed and Loading
Check that you have loaded the labels correctly using the guide printed on the printer itself. The diagram below shows the correct label orientation for the Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 450 Turbo.
Make sure the label is loaded face-up. Loading labels with the label face down means you are printing on the backing rather than the label surface — this is a common mistake and easy to miss.
Font Size on Printed Label Appears Incorrect
If barcode labels from Blackpurl print with incorrect font sizes, misaligned text, or content spreading across multiple labels, the most common cause is that the Dymo software is installed but not currently running.
Check That the Dymo Service Is Running
Verify the Dymo software is running by checking for the Dymo icon in your Windows taskbar system tray.
Click the Dymo icon in the taskbar. If the service is running, the context menu will show an option to Stop Service. If you see Start Service instead, the service is not running — click Start Service to start it.
Recommended Label Sizes
Using the wrong label size can also cause font and alignment issues. Use the recommended Dymo labels for your region.

Error Message: DYMO Framework Not Installed
If a red DYMO Framework not installed notification banner appears in the top-right corner of Blackpurl when printing a barcode label, the Dymo Connect software is not currently running.
Start the Dymo Service
1. Locate the Dymo icon in your Windows taskbar system tray.
2. Right-click the icon to open the context menu.
3. Select Start Service.
Once the service is running, attempt to print a barcode label again.
