Laser Printers
Laser printers are used for printing customer invoices, service job worksheets, deposit receipts, and other full-page documents on A4 or letter-size paper. Any laser printer that is installed on your device (computer or tablet) should work with Blackpurl — the system is designed for plug-and-play devices and wireless connectivity.
Receipt Printers
Receipt printers are used for printing deposit receipts and customer order receipts. Blackpurl officially supports the Epson TM T88V (238), a monochrome thermal line printer (no ribbon required). In practice, any receipt printer that is installed on your device should work with Blackpurl.
For instructions on printing to a receipt printer, see Print a Customer Order Invoice to a Receipt Printer.
POS Barcode Scanners
Barcode scanners are used to scan part barcodes directly into Blackpurl. The following models are officially supported:
Symbol LS2208-SR200007R-NA (USB)
Motorola L14278-TRBU0100ZWR (USB and wireless)
In practice, any barcode scanner that is installed on your device should work with Blackpurl. Because there are many barcode scanner models available and it is not possible to test every one, Blackpurl cannot guarantee or recommend scanners outside the supported list.
Important: Downloaded scanner apps will not work with Blackpurl. There is no connection between third-party scanner apps and Blackpurl, so only hardware scanners installed directly on your device should be used.
Barcode Label Printers
Zebra Label Printers
Blackpurl supports the following Zebra label printers:
ZD410 Label Printer (203dpi)
ZD411 Label Printer (203dpi)
ZQ610 Label Printer (203dpi)
All supported Zebra printers must be 203dpi, not 300dpi. There is typically no indication of the DPI on the manufacturer's packaging or box, so confirm the specification before purchasing.
The dealership is responsible for installing the printer on the relevant computer(s) and completing the setup. Use the appropriate guide for your operating system:
Recommended label size: 50mm × 28mm perforated direct thermal labels (2" × 1").
Previously Supported — Dymo Barcode Printers
Blackpurl previously supported the following Dymo barcode printers:
Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 450 Turbo
Dymo LabelWriter 4XL
Dymo printers are no longer recommended for the following reasons:
The Dymo LabelWriter 450 and 450 Turbo have been made obsolete by Dymo.
Dymo has introduced chips embedded in the core of their label rolls. This means only official Dymo-branded labels will work with their printers, preventing the use of more affordable third-party labels. As a result, label costs have increased significantly — Dymo labels can cost up to five times more than generic alternatives.
If you are an existing dealership still using a Dymo printer and you experience printing issues in Blackpurl, support will attempt to help you get your Dymo printer working again. However, if a resolution cannot be found, you may need to replace it with a supported Zebra printer (see the Zebra section above for supported models).
The dealership is responsible for installing the Dymo printer on your computer(s) and downloading the required Dymo software. The software required depends on your operating system (Windows or macOS) and your printer model. For details, see Set Up Dymo Label Printer Software for Barcode Printing.
Recommended label sizes for Dymo printers:
Large labels: 89mm × 36mm / 3.5" × 1.40" — accommodates two description lines
Small labels: 89mm × 28mm / 3.5" × 1.125" — accommodates one description line
