This article covers how to transfer a Customer Owned Unit from one customer to another in Blackpurl. When a customer sells their unit to someone else, use the Transfer Ownership function to move the unit — and its complete service history — to the new owner's Customer Record.
Scenario 1: Transfer During Service Job Creation
In this scenario, a customer books in for a service, but when you open the Create Customer Owned Unit window from a Customer Order Service Job, the unit already shows as owned by a different customer.
1. In the Create Customer Owned Unit window, click Transfer Ownership.
2. Blackpurl will ask you to confirm the transfer. Click Yes, transfer to proceed.
3. The unit and its complete service history will transfer to the new owner's Customer Record as their Customer Owned Unit.
Restrictions
The Transfer Ownership option is not available if the unit is currently:
On an open Customer Order Service Job — the unit will show the indicator ACTIVE ON SERVICE JOB
Listed as a trade-in on a Customer Order Unit Deal — the unit will show the indicator ACTIVE ON A DEAL
Scenario 2: Transfer from the Customer Owned Unit Record
In this scenario, a customer has already told the dealership they have sold their unit to someone else. You initiate the transfer directly from the Customer Owned Unit Record so the service history follows to the new owner.
1. Navigate to the relevant Customer Owned Unit Record and click Transfer ownership.
2. The Transfer ownership dialog will open. Search for the customer the unit is being transferred to by typing their name — search results will appear as you type.
3. Once the new owner appears in the results, click Confirm transfer.
4. The new owner's name will now appear on the Customer Owned Unit Record.
Moving a Customer Owned Unit Into Dealership Stock
Transfer Ownership cannot be used when the dealership is acquiring the unit from a customer. In that case, the dealership is purchasing the unit — not simply transferring it between customers. Use one of these processes instead:
Process a Trade In Only Customer Order Unit Deal — see Trade In Only Customer Order
Purchase the unit through Unit Ordering and add the customer's name as a Vendor — see How to Process a Unit Order (Single Unit Order or Bulk Unit Orders) (no longer available)
