Product locations in Blackpurl let you record where parts and units are physically stored, making it easier to find inventory and track stock. This article covers how to set up locations for parts, assign them to part records, run location reports, and use the location field on stocked unit records.
Part Records
Set Up Product Locations
Product locations are configured in System Settings before you can assign them to part records.
From the Blackpurl header, click your initials in the top right corner, then click Settings.
From the System Settings dashboard, navigate to Product Locations.
The Product Locations screen has the following elements:
Search location — search for an existing location by typing its name in the search field.
Add new location — type your new location name on the Add new location line and press Enter on your keyboard to save it.
Location list — all created locations appear in this section.
Remove a location — find the relevant location and click the remove icon next to it to delete it.
Assign Locations to Part Records
Once your locations are set up, you can assign them to individual part records.
1. Navigate to the relevant Part Record.
2. Click Edit to open the Edit Merchandise window.
3. Click into the Location field and search for the location or locations you want to assign.
4. Click Save to apply the changes.
Report on Locations
All Part Reports support adding a Location column so you can see where parts are stored. To add the Location column, run the relevant Parts Report from Reporting, then use the column selector to add Location to your report view.
Report on Parts with No Location
Running a no-location report lets you identify parts that have stock on hand but no location assigned on their part record. This helps you keep your location data accurate and complete.
To run the report:
1. Click Reporting > Reports, then click + New Report.
2. Click Select Other Fields, open the Type dropdown, and select Part.
3. Click Apply and select the following columns: Qty Available, Location, and In Stock.
4. Click Edit and set the filter parameters as follows:
Qty Available — Greater than 0
In Stock — Not Equal to 0
Location — No location assigned
5. Click Add More Information to run the report.
The resulting report lists all part records that have quantity available and stock on hand but no location assigned.
Locations on the Unit Record (Stocked Unit)
The Location field on a stocked unit record works differently from part locations — it is a free-text field where you can type any location value directly.
Navigate to the relevant Unit Record and click Edit to open the Edit Stock Unit screen.
If the Location field is not visible, click the field selector and choose Location to add it to the screen.
Type your location value into the Location field. This is free text, so you can enter any value that suits your needs.
Click Save.
For example, if you enter Lot 2 as the location on a stock unit record, that value will appear in the Location column when you run a Stock Unit Valuation Report.
When running Stock Unit Reports, add the Location column to display whatever free-text location value has been entered on each unit record.
