A temporary unit on a Unit Deal is basically a placeholder unit allowing you to work up a deal to sell a unit before the needed unit even exists. This is a handy tool when you are wanting to build a deal (quote) without committing any unit inventory or options to the deal.
Temporary units also have the ability to be transformed into being a unit that needs to be located or ordered ie: special order units.
How to add a Temporary Unit to a deal
In the Unit Deal tab of a customer order, use the Add Unit button found in the top right of the deal header.
This will present you with the Add to Deal screen and in the top right of this screen you will see a "Temporary Unit" button.
This will then give you the standard Create Unit screen which will have some field disabled such as VIN/SN and Stock#. Here you would create a unit just like you would for any other unit you can create. Enter the specifics of the unit and its pricing.
When you are finished you will be returned to the unit deal and a new deal unit tab will be included in the deal which will clearly indicate that it has a temporary unit status.
Deals containing temporary units will not be allowed to be processed to "Approved" status.
Special Order a Temporary Unit on a deal
Once a temporary unit is on a deal, you can indicate that it needs to be ordered so that you can fulfill the needs of the customer. To do this just use the status icon on the unit in the deal and select "Required".
Now the unit ordering application will be able to process the order for this unit.
When this occurs the status of the temporary unit will changed to "Ordered". Then once this ordered unit is received, the unit deal will automatically be updated to reference the unit that was received.
Replace a Temporary Unit with an existing unit
To replace a temporary unit with a unit that actually exists, either an in-stock unit or one that is on order, simply use the Tools icon below the unit information and select "Replace Unit".
