Setting up a Zebra Label Printer on Windows requires three steps: installing Zebra Setup Utilities to configure your printer settings, installing Zebra Browser Print Service to allow Blackpurl to communicate with the printer, and confirming the printer is detected and set as the default device. If you run into issues during any of these steps, contact your IT person or company for assistance.
Step 1: Install and Configure Zebra Setup Utilities
Zebra Setup Utilities configures your printer's label size, speed, and darkness settings. Complete this step after physically connecting your Zebra printer to your computer.
1. Download Zebra Setup Utilities for Windows from the Zebra Setup Utilities download page. Look for the approximately 12 MB download button on that page.
2. Once downloaded, double-click the Zebra Setup Utilities icon on your computer to open the application. The main window shows a Printers section listing your connected Zebra printer.
3. Click Configure Printer Settings.
4. The Printer Settings Wizard opens on the Label Parameters screen. Enter the correct values for your dealership's unit of measurement, then click Next.
If your dealership uses millimetres, use the millimetre label parameters shown below.
If your dealership uses inches, use the inch label parameters shown below.
1. On the Speed and Darkness screen, set Darkness to 30. Leave all other fields at their default values.
2. Click Finish to apply all settings.
Step 2: Install Zebra Browser Print Service
Zebra Browser Print Service allows Blackpurl to send print jobs to your Zebra printer through your web browser. You need to install and launch this service before printing from Blackpurl.
1. Download Zebra Browser Print from this link: Zebra Browser Print Service.
On the Zebra developer tools page, select the Browser Print option.
2. Choose the Windows version of Browser Print from the download options.
3. Once downloaded, run the installer file ZebraBrowserPrintSetup-.exe.
4. Select where you would like to save the Browser Print files and click Next.
5. Select where you would like to run the program from and click Next.
6. Decide whether you want a desktop icon for Browser Print and click Next.
7. Click Install.
8. Check the box to launch Zebra Browser Print, then click Finish. If you do not check this box, Zebra Browser Print will not launch automatically the next time you restart your computer. The Windows installer also adds a shortcut to the Startup menu automatically.
9. When the program runs for the first time, the End User License Agreement appears — click I Agree.
10. A pop-up about communicating with a web browser appears — click OK.
11. A browser window opens confirming the SSL certificate has been accepted.
12. A pop-up appears requesting access to connected Zebra devices — click Yes.
13. The Zebra logo icon appears in your system tray, confirming that Zebra Browser Print is running.
Step 3: Confirm Your Printer is Detected in Browser Print
After installing Browser Print, confirm that your Zebra printer is listed as the default device so Blackpurl can find it when you print.
1. Right-click the Zebra Browser Print icon in your system tray and select Settings.
2. The Browser Print Settings window opens. This window has the following sections:
Default Devices | Lists the default device set for this user. This is separate from the default printer set by the operating system. You can change this at any time using the Change button. |
Added Devices | Lists devices that have been manually added by the user. Modify these by clicking Manage. |
Accepted Hosts | Lists web addresses that the user has allowed access to their devices. These can be removed from this section. |
Blocked Hosts | Lists web addresses that the user has blocked from accessing their devices. These can be removed from this section. |
Broadcast Search | When selected, allows Zebra Browser Print to find and print to network-connected Zebra printers. |
Driver Search | When enabled, the application will display installed drivers in the discovered printer response. |
3. If your Zebra printer is not listed under Default Devices, click the Change button. A pop-up appears with a dropdown of all discoverable devices. Finding network-connected Zebra printers may take a few moments.
4. Select the printer you want to use as the default and click Set. Your printer now appears in the Default Devices section.
5. If your printer does not appear in the dropdown and cannot be set as default, add it manually. Click the Manage button in the Added Devices section.
Fill in the Name, Device Address, and Port fields, then click Add.
The device appears in the list and becomes available as a discovered device.
6. Once your printer is listed, minimize the Browser Print Settings window. Your printer is now ready to use with Blackpurl.
Tip: The first time you log into Blackpurl and use the Zebra printer, you may be prompted to allow Blackpurl to access the printer. Click to allow access when prompted.
